What are Battery recycling regulations in the Republic of Ireland?

The Waste Management (Batteries and Accumulators) Regulations came into effect in the Republic of Ireland on 16 July 2008. These are designed to prevent harmful chemicals contained in batteries from contaminating landfill waste by encouraging their responsible disposal.

The crossed out wheelie bin symbol printed on batteries is there to remind customers not to dispose of them in household waste, but instead to take them to an appropriate facility where they can be disposed of safely.

Marks and Spencer (Ireland) Ltd is registered with the WEEE Register Society (IE00319WB) in accordance with the provisions of the article 19(5) of the Waste Management (Batteries and Accumulators) Regulations 2008 (S.I. No.268 of 2008).
