Which items can I wash at 30ºC?
Many items of clothing can be washed at 30C, even if the label shows a higher temperature. The temperature shown in the tub symbol on a care label is the maximum temperature that the item can be washed at.
For effective washing at 30C, make sure the washing machine is filled properly, the right amount of detergent is used, and whites and colours are separated. Use a detergent designed to work in a cooler wash as they dissolve quickly, start to work fast and contain special cleaning ingredients to aid stain removal. You can buy detergents specially formulated for lower temperatures from M&S stores.
Items that would benefit from a higher temperature wash include: bedding, towels, sportswear, underwear, nightwear and baby clothes as well as stained items.
